Exploring the Beauty of Los Cabos, BCS: A 3-Day Itinerary
Updated: Jul 28
Are you yearning for a perfect mix of sun, sand, and adventure? Look no further than the stunning destination of Los Cabos, Baja California Sur!
This picturesque region on the southern tip of the Baja Peninsula offers an abundance of natural beauty, exciting activities, and a vibrant culture that will leave you enchanted. To make the most of your trip, here's a carefully curated 3-day itinerary to help you explore the best that Los Cabos has to offer.
Note: ‘Los Cabos’ actually comprises two different towns: Cabo San Lucas (where international flights arrive, and commonly considered the 'main Cabo’) and San Jose del Cabo (smaller, with a more artsy scene). Travel time between the two is about 25 minutes by car along a beautiful scenic tourist corridor. I highly recommend securing a rental car for the duration of your stay to explore the region with ease!
Day 1: Discovering the Land of Contrasts
Morning:
Arrive at Los Cabos International Airport, and after checking into your accommodation (Still need to reserve your vacation home? Check out this list for fantastic options on any budget), kick off your adventure with a hearty breakfast at one of the local cafes or beachside restaurants. Select a location with some traditional Mexican dishes like chilaquiles or huevos rancheros to start your day on a flavorful note.

Mid-morning:
Embark on a scenic drive to Land's End, the iconic rock formations on everybody's Instagram stories! Witness the breathtaking views of the Arch of Cabo San Lucas and capture memories at this picture-perfect spot. Quick boat tours are available nearby if you're interested in seeing the Arch from the water as well.
Afternoon:
Spend your afternoon lounging on one of the pristine beaches in the area. Medano Beach is a popular choice, where you can also indulge in various water activities like paddleboarding or snorkeling.

Evening:
Head back to your accommodation to freshen up before setting out to explore the vibrant downtown area. Stroll along the bustling Marina, where you'll find an array of restaurants and bars offering mouth-watering tacos and refreshing margaritas. Enjoy the lively atmosphere and maybe catch a local Mariachi band playing traditional tunes. For an authentic Mexican dining experience, I could suggest you make your way to Mi Casa. This family-owned restaurant boasts a colourful ambiance and a menu that showcases the diverse flavors of Mexico. Don't miss their handmade tortillas and traditional mole sauce.
Day 2: Embrace Nature's Wonders

Morning:
Start your day by embarking on a thrilling whale-watching tour in the Sea of Cortez (available seasonally). Los Cabos is famous for its diverse marine life, and you might spot humpback whales, gray whales, or even dolphins frolicking in the waters. Choose a company with marine biologist-certified guides, such as Whale Watch Cabo, for a fun and educational outing. Most tours last about 2.5 - 3 hours. If you're out of season for the whales, catch yourself lunch on a fishing charter instead!

Mid-morning:
After the exhilarating whale-watching or fishing experience, head to San Jose del Cabo, a charming town with a relaxed vibe. Explore the colourful streets, art galleries, and boutiques. Don't miss the chance to visit the historic Mission San Jose del Cabo, which dates back to the 18th century.
Afternoon:
Enjoy a leisurely lunch at a local eatery, savouring the fusion of Mexican and international flavors. Post-lunch, spend some time at Palmilla Beach, a beautiful spot for swimming and relaxation.
Evening:

As the sun begins to set, prepare yourself for a unique and cultural experience - a mezcal tasting and pairing at the incredible Mexican Spirits Club. Delight your senses with the complex and diverse flavors of this traditional Mexican spirit. Learn about the production process, the various types of mezcal, and how it pairs perfectly with different dishes. It's an enlightening way to appreciate the rich heritage of Mexican spirits.
Day 3: Adventure and Admiration

Morning:
On your final day, gift yourself the bucket-list experience of a thrilling ATV or side-by-side tour through the desert landscapes! Explore the rugged terrain, remote canyons, and picturesque beaches, as you marvel at the untouched beauty of Los Cabos from off the beaten track. These tours generally take about 3 hours.
Afternoon:
After your adventure, head back to San Jose del Cabo to visit Flora Farms, a delightful organic farm in the foothills of the Sierra de la Laguna Mountains. Take a guided or self-guided tour, learn about their sustainable practices, and enjoy a farm-to-table lunch that celebrates the freshest local ingredients. On your way back to Los Cabos, indulge in some relaxation at Chileno Bay or Santa Maria Beach, both known for their crystal-clear waters and excellent snorkeling opportunities.
Evening:

On your last night, treat yourself to a gourmet dinner at one of Los Cabos' renowned restaurants. The region boasts a diverse culinary scene, so whether you're craving fresh seafood, traditional Mexican cuisine, or international flavors, there's something to satisfy every palate.
As you bid farewell to Los Cabos, you'll carry with you a treasure trove of memories, from stunning landscapes to exhilarating adventures and warm, welcoming locals. This 3-day itinerary will help you make the most of your trip, but remember, Los Cabos has much more to offer, and you'll likely find yourself planning your return before you even leave!
Happy travels!
